📋 About the Department

Forensic science, or criminal science, is a general term encompassing the scientific and technical approaches used in a systematic and scientific manner to collect evidence and examine information that leads, in criminology, to understanding the cause of an incident. This department specializes in providing qualified personnel responsible for investigating accidents and crimes. It is one of the medical and scientific departments at the Najaf Technical Institute/Middle Euphrates Technical University. The department offers a distinguished educational program that qualifies graduates to enter various fields of work related to forensic science and the judiciary. This is achieved by providing and preparing highly qualified individuals in the areas of crime investigation, criminal investigations, fingerprinting, evidence collection, handling, and analysis. This leads to the identification of perpetrators based on unambiguous scientific principles. The program also covers how to preserve evidence at crime scenes, collect samples from the scene, document evidence, and understand how to use modern equipment and technologies in the field. Furthermore, it focuses on preventing and determining the occurrence of crime and supporting courts and public prosecutors with facts based on forensic evidence. In this context, and given the pressing need for this specialization, the Department of Forensic and Legal Evidence Techniques was established at the Technical Institute/Najaf, as per the letter from Al-Furat Technical University, number (…………..), to contribute to providing qualified technical personnel capable of performing the aforementioned tasks. The first cohort of students was admitted for the 2019-2020 academic year.
