The Dean of Najaf Polytechnic College, Professor Dr. Haider Hassan Al-Abdali, congratulated the students of the Optometry Techniques Department on the completion of their summer training. He commended their commitment, perseverance, and eagerness to benefit from the scientific and practical experiences they gained during their training at health institutions and specialized centers. He wished them a new academic year filled with success and dedication, encouraging them to continue their journey with the same enthusiasm and determination to develop their scientific and professional skills. He emphasized that field training is a fundamental pillar in building the technical student’s character, as it allows them to transition from theoretical knowledge acquired in classrooms to direct practical application in the workplace, dealing with real-life professional cases and situations. This contributes to enhancing their capabilities and raising their readiness to enter the job market in the future. As part of the ongoing field monitoring of the training process, the training sites of the Optometry Techniques Department students underwent a series of inspection and supervisory visits. These visits aimed to directly observe the nature of the training, the students’ adherence to the approved instructions and regulations, and to communicate with the medical and health staff supervising their training, as well as to address the students’ needs and feedback.
The monitoring included visits to the following centers: The Association’s Health Center and Al-Aruba Health Center were visited, and during the visit, the importance of perseverance, adherence to official working hours, and maximizing the benefit from training hours was emphasized. The necessity of complying with attendance and absence regulations and maintaining professional discipline, which represents an essential part of the technical student’s character and future career, was stressed. The field visit revealed that the training at the center was progressing well, with students showing clear interest and keenness to benefit from the training program. This reflects the importance of continuous monitoring and communication between the college, training sites, and academic and practical supervisors. In a related context, inspection visits included several other training sites, including Al-Furat Al-Awsat Hospital, Al-Quds Health Center, Al-Ansar Health Center, Maysan II Health Center, and Hussein Naji Health Center – Maysan I. These visits aimed to provide academic supervision of students in the Optometry Techniques Department – Evening Studies, monitor the training process, and assess the students’ commitment to fulfilling training requirements at their respective sites. The monitoring at these sites focused on evaluating attendance and discipline levels, reviewing the nature of the practical tasks performed by the students, and meeting with medical and health staff, training officials, and practical supervisors to discuss the instructions and regulations specific to summer training. This ensures the achievement of the program’s scientific and practical objectives. The visits underscored the importance of Students are encouraged to view their summer training period as a genuine opportunity to build professional experience, not merely a course requirement. Direct interaction with the healthcare work environment allows students to develop communication skills, interact effectively with patients, understand the operational mechanisms within healthcare institutions, and apply their acquired knowledge and specialized skills in optometry techniques. The guidelines also emphasize adherence to professional and ethical standards, respect for working hours, consistent attendance, and cooperation with supervising medical and healthcare staff.
