📋 About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Technologies is one of the principal technological departments within the Institute. It was established concurrently with the founding of the Institute in 1978, initially comprising two branches: Metal Production and Maintenance. Over time, the Department has undergone significant development and modernization. It now includes advanced workshops equipped with CNC lathes and milling machines designed for processing various types of metals. The Department also features modern laboratories dedicated to metallic surface coating, measurement of the physical properties of metallic and non-metallic materials, as well as heat treatment processes for steel. These advancements align with the rapid scientific and technological progress witnessed globally in the fields of production and manufacturing. The Department of Mechanical Technologies has consistently provided a wide range of scientific, technical, technological, industrial, and production services, in addition to training programs and engineering consultancy services to various governmental sectors and community institutions, both historically and in recent years. Furthermore, the Department has actively contributed to social solidarity initiatives, unemployment reduction efforts, assistance and support programs for disadvantaged groups, and women’s empowerment programs.

We strive to establish the Department of Mechanical Technologies as one of the leading scientific and technical departments at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and across the country. The Department aspires to contribute to positioning the University among the top 500 accredited universities worldwide. This vision will be realized through continuous enhancement of academic staff qualifications, laboratories, and library resources, including the enrichment of valuable academic materials, as well as through the ongoing development of curricula in alignment with international standards and requirements. The Department seeks to serve as a beacon for students across the country by preparing a generation of highly competent technical diploma holders and by supplying society with skilled and experienced technical graduates. We are committed to ensuring that this vision aligns with the aspirations and objectives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, while fulfilling the requirements of the governmental program

The Department is committed to advancing its academic programs both quantitatively and qualitatively in alignment with the fundamental objectives of the Institute and the University. This includes the development and introduction of new pathways and channels within technical curricula to ensure responsiveness to contemporary technological advancements The Department seeks to align its academic offerings with global scientific progress and the accelerating developments in science and technology across all sectors of modern human life and activity

The objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Department are an extension of the objectives of the Najaf Technical Institute and the Middle Euphrates Technical University, namely:
General Objective: To prepare technical personnel in the field of metal production technologies who will bear the responsibility of building the nation and participating in its comprehensive development in accordance with the country’s needs
To instill authentic Islamic, national, and humanitarian values in the new generation and prepare future leaders
To prepare an educated generation armed with knowledge, adopting it as a sound foundation for bringing about radical changes, and placing scientific knowledge and the scientific method of thinking and analysis at the service of the nation’s goals and eliminating the various negative aspects that have become attached to it
To work on enhancing the position of the university and the institute as a creative center of culture that deepens authentic social values
To work on deepening the balance between the advancement of theoretical sciences and their applied aspects

1- Working on various metal cutting machines (lathe, milling machine, etc.)
2- Ability to distribute production processes among the operating elements and prepare the technological path from production units to achieve the best performance method
3- Working in the technological departments of factories and contributing to the preparation of operating cards for both workshops and machines, according to the operating elements
4- Performing tasks related to quality control and quality assurance
5- Participating in and carrying out emergency and periodic maintenance work for machines and equipment within their area of expertise
