📋 About the Department
The Renewable Energy Technology Branch is a new branch at the Najaf Technical Institute, established in the 2025-2026 academic year within the Electrical Engineering Department. It specializes in the study, operation, and maintenance of clean energy generation systems such as solar and wind power. The branch aims to prepare technical personnel with the practical skills to design and implement renewable energy systems to meet the needs of industrial and service institutions. The branch includes specialized laboratories for training students on modern technologies in the fields of solar cells, wind turbines, and storage and control systems. Its establishment aligns with the Iraqi government’s direction towards transitioning to sustainable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and preserving the environment.

Opening a Renewable Energy Technologies department in educational institutions can significantly contribute to providing job opportunities for graduates in Iraq after graduation. This is achieved through several methods and mechanisms:
1) Meeting the needs of the local market: With the increasing global and local interest in renewable energies such as solar, wind, and bioenergy, the Iraqi market has begun to adopt these technologies in industrial and service projects. This opens up job opportunities for graduates in fields such as the installation and maintenance of solar and wind energy systems, as well as the engineering design of these systems.
2) Supporting National Projects: The Iraqi government and major public and private sector projects have begun to shift towards using renewable energy in their projects, such as solar and wind power plants, to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources. Graduates of preparatory studies (scientific, biological, and applied branches), and graduates of vocational studies in industrial preparatory schools (electrical branch), according to the instructions issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding the minimum general admission requirements.
Certificate Name: Graduates of the branch receive a technical diploma in renewable energy technologies.
Admission Requirements: Must meet the branch’s admission requirements stipulated above.
Duration of Study: Two academic years.
Language of Instruction: Arabic, with some courses taught in English.
Curriculum: During their studies, students master various theoretical and practical (laboratory) courses that provide a foundation enabling them to gain experience and qualify to work in electrical factories and plants, companies focused on clean energy, and also to work independently
