In response to ministerial directives and the vision of the President of the Middle Euphrates Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, regarding the necessity of improving the university environment, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Institute, Professor Dr. Haider Hassan Al-Abdali, the Accounting Technologies Department at the Institute launched a large-scale volunteer tree planting campaign. This coincided with the arrival of spring and National Tree Planting Day, which falls in the middle of this month.
The campaign was implemented through fruitful cooperation between the Accounting Technologies Department and the Institute’s Agricultural Unit. The volunteer team was headed by Dr. Rabab Adnan (Head of the Accounting Technologies Department) and Dr. Ahmed Hammoudi (Head of the Agricultural Unit), with the active participation of the department’s professors and students, who embodied the spirit of volunteer teamwork. The campaign involved planting seedlings throughout the institute’s various corridors and courtyards. These included distinctive varieties of vibrant bougainvillea and acacia shrubs, as well as other species that are environmentally friendly and tolerant of the university’s climate. This adds an aesthetic touch and contributes to combating visual and environmental pollution.
On the sidelines of the campaign’s launch, the Dean of the Technical Institute, Professor Dr. Haider Hassan Al-Abdali, stated:
“Despite the atmosphere of the holy month of Ramadan, the institute was keen to launch the national tree-planting campaign on campus with great enthusiasm and energy. What we see today is the fruit of a strong sense of responsibility towards our educational environment. Other departments, staff, and students took the initiative to participate in this major tree-planting campaign, which was spearheaded by the Accounting Technology Department, thanks to its proactive efforts.”
This initiative is part of the university and institute’s plan to expand green spaces within the campus, provide a comfortable learning environment for students, and instill a culture of volunteerism and environmental stewardship in the younger generation, in line with the goals of sustainable development.
