Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, participated in the launch of the National Day of the Holy Quran activities, which run from January 17 to January 22.
In his speech at the University of Baghdad, in the presence of the Prime Minister, representatives of state institutions, presidents of Iraqi universities, and their councils, the Minister emphasized that it is the responsibility of all, especially universities, to serve as a constant pillar in fostering awareness rooted in fundamental values. He stressed that universities should be an integral part of the identity of belonging to the Holy Quran and contribute, through academic and scientific presence, to protecting society and its generations, preserving its historical, cultural, present, and future achievements.
He added that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, over the past two and a half years, has initiated a special admission channel for students who are memorizers of the Holy Quran in universities and reduced tuition fees for this group across various scientific and humanities disciplines. This initiative aims to honor the status of the Holy Quran and reinforce Iraq’s national stance in promoting a culture of moderation and countering incitement to violence and hatred worldwide.
