The Department of Aviation Technology at Najaf Technical University held a scientific symposium entitled “Sustainable Planning for Water Resources Management,” presented by Asst. Ghufran Ahmed Jawad, on November 12, 2025. The symposium aimed to discuss the vital objectives related to sustainable water management in Iraq. It focused primarily on a set of key objectives that ensure the optimal use of water resources and their preservation for future generations:
- Preserving Water Resources: Emphasizing the importance of sustainable use of water resources by reducing waste and enhancing water efficiency in all vital sectors, including agriculture, industry, and domestic consumption.
- Protecting the Ecosystem: Preserving aquatic ecosystems such as rivers, lakes, and groundwater from pollution and unsustainable use, and ensuring the health of these systems to support biodiversity.
- Improving Water Quality: Monitoring and treating water pollutants to ensure the quality of water available for human, agricultural, and industrial use.
- Encouraging Technological Innovation: Reviewing and supporting the use of modern water treatment technologies, such as desalination and recycling technologies, to expand available water resources.
- Promoting Community Participation: Involving local communities in planning and management Water resources through education and awareness to ensure rational water use.
- Supporting water policies and legislation: Developing and implementing effective water policies and legislation that contribute to regulating water use and protecting it from depletion.
The Dean of the Institute, Professor Haider Al-Abdeli, commended the symposium, saying, “We are proud to hold such important symposia and scientific activities at our institute. Water resources management is one of the most important challenges facing Iraq and the world. We highlighted the vital goals of sustainable water management, which include conserving water resources, protecting the ecosystem, improving water quality, encouraging technological innovation, enhancing community participation, and supporting water policies and legislation. We, at the Technical Institute in Najaf, are committed to supporting all efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development in our country.
