In the hall of the administrative building at Najaf Technical Institute, the voices of young minds and academic expertise resonated. A symposium titled “Sustainable Development: Concept, Goals, and Obstacles” was organized. Attended by a select group of students and staff from the Accounting Technology Department, Dr. Rabab Adnan Al-Rubaie delivered a valuable lecture, opening the door to dialogue on the concept of sustainable development and its global goals.
The symposium was an in-depth exploratory journey into the world of sustainable development, defining the concept in its economic, social, and environmental dimensions, and reviewing the ambitious United Nations goals, known as the “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs). The symposium did not stop at the goals, but delved into analyzing the obstacles to achieving these goals, including economic, social, and environmental challenges. It opened the door to sharing innovative solutions and presenting successful experiences from various countries and regions. The symposium highlighted the importance of sustainable development in achieving social and economic progress and protecting the environment for future generations. It also explored ways to enhance international and local cooperation between government institutions, the private sector, and civil society to support scientific research in sustainable development and encourage responsible consumption.
The Dean of the Institute, Professor Haider Al-Abdali, commended the symposium, saying, “I appreciate this valuable symposium organized by the Department of Accounting Technology, which addressed the vital and important topic of sustainable development. This symposium reflects the Institute’s commitment to raising awareness of the importance of sustainability and encourages our students to think of innovative solutions to address the environmental, economic, and social challenges facing our world today.”
The symposium concluded by emphasizing that achieving sustainable development requires concerted efforts across various sectors and levels, and that exchanging ideas and innovative solutions is the best way to overcome challenges, with a focus on promoting education, international cooperation, and the use of modern technologies
