On Sunday 3/9/2025, the Civil Technology Department at Najaf Technical Institute organized a training course entitled “Reviving the Spirit of Place Initiative for Historic Cities”, presented by the lecturer, Eng. Ghaith Abdul Amir Muhammad. The course focused on how to preserve the cultural and historical identity of historic cities through initiatives that serve the renewal and development of places without affecting their deep history.
The lecturer reviewed in the course ways to integrate traditional architectural elements with modern innovations, pointing out the importance of creating an urban environment that respects the cultural heritage and responds to contemporary needs. Several successful case studies of historic cities that were able to revive the spirit of place in a manner consistent with the developments of the era were also presented.
Commenting on the course, the Dean of the Najaf Technical Institute, Prof. Dr. Haider Hassan Al-Abdeli, stressed the importance of initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of historic cities, pointing out the need to combine academic and applied efforts to achieve a balance between preserving the identity of the place and the requirements of the modern era.
The course was attended by a number of professors interested in the fields of architectural design and cultural heritage, which gave them the opportunity to interact with the lecturer and exchange ideas on how to implement this initiative in their cities
