The Architectural Design and Decoration Department at the Najaf Technical Institute held a festival entitled “Najaf Heritage Festival”, which included a variety of activities that reflect the city’s rich heritage, including drawing, handicrafts, maquettes, and famous Najaf dishes. This festival came as part of the institute’s tourism promotion campaign for Najaf.
The festival witnessed the display of dozens of artistic paintings whose topics varied between Islamic and heritage, in addition to calligraphy and drawing paintings. Many handicrafts, engineering designs, and stone sculptures were also displayed, in addition to famous Najaf dishes that were admired by visitors.
The Head of the Architectural Design and Decoration Department, Dr. Hussein Mazloum, stated that the artistic paintings displayed at the festival are a reflection of Najaf heritage and the beauty of fantasy in the region, stressing that Najaf dishes enjoy worldwide fame and are distinguished by their taste that attracts tourists.
The festival lasted for four hours, and was opened by the guest of the Technical Institute, Professor Hassan Bashir, a professor at the College of Culture and Media at Imam Sadiq University (AS) in Tehran/Iran. He was accompanied on his tour of the festival by the Dean’s Assistants for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Al-Adli, and the Assistant for Student Affairs, Dr. Al-Tamimi. Professor Bashir expressed his admiration for Najaf art and distinctive Najaf dishes.
The Tourism Department participated in the festival through the head of the department, Dr. Hussein Munim, his staff and students, within the activities of Najaf dishes and making models of some archaeological sites in Iraq.
Festival Objectives
- This festival aims to achieve several goals, including:
- Promoting the rich and diverse Najaf heritage.
- Attracting tourists to the holy city of Najaf.
- Highlighting the cultural and artistic role of the Najaf Technical Institute.
- Encouraging students to participate in cultural and artistic activities.
- Raising awareness of the importance of preserving heritage.
On this occasion, the Dean of the Najaf Technical Institute, Prof. Dr. Al-Abdeli, praised the Najaf Heritage Festival organized by the Department of Architectural Design and Decoration, stressing that the festival reflects the institute’s commitment to promoting the city’s rich heritage and supporting tourism in Najaf. He commended the efforts of those in charge of the festival, pointing out that the various activities included in the festival, from drawing and handicrafts to maquettes and Najaf dishes, contributed to highlighting the cultural and civilized face of the city. At the conclusion of the festival, the participants recommended the need to continue organizing such cultural events that contribute to enhancing awareness of Najaf heritage and encouraging tourism in the city. They also called for concerted efforts between various concerned parties to support the Najaf Technical Institute and enable it to continue its pioneering role in serving the community
