Crime Scene Performance Brings Investigations to Life: Technical Institute – Najaf Students Excel in Criminal Forensics

Media and Government Communication Division / Technical Institute – Najaf

In the presence of the Dean of the Technical Institute – Najaf, Professor Dr. Haider Al-Abdali, the Department of Forensic and Legal Techniques staged a crime scene reenactment in one of the institute’s courtyards last week. The students showcased their theoretical and practical knowledge in forensic photography, bringing their studies to life.

The event witnessed a large audience, including the Head of the Department, Dr. Haider Al-Kaabi, faculty members from various departments, and students from both morning and evening studies. Forensic photography is one of the core subjects that forensic students rely on to gain a deeper understanding of their field and to analyze crimes that frequently occur in society.

A total of 32 students re-enacted a true crime story that had shocked the city—an incident where a wife conspired with her lover to murder her husband and seize their marital home. This particular case was chosen for the moral lessons it conveys and to highlight the critical role of forensic investigations in uncovering the truth and presenting evidence.

The students spent an entire month preparing for the performance, meticulously portraying the roles of victims, perpetrators, and investigators. Realistic tools and an authentic setting were used to enhance the experience. The performance captivated the audience, providing a clear depiction of how criminal investigation teams operate in such cases and emphasizing the importance of forensic evidence in solving crimes and bringing criminals to justice.

The students successfully recreated a realistic crime scene, employing various types of evidence such as footprints, fingerprints, and fabric fibers to identify the suspect. They demonstrated remarkable proficiency in using modern forensic photography equipment to document evidence from multiple angles, contributing to the outstanding success of the project.

In this regard, Dr. Al-Abdali stated, “It is an honor to witness this outstanding achievement by the students of the Forensic and Legal Techniques Department. This impressive performance is the result of their dedication and the efforts of their esteemed professors. What we have seen today proves the creativity and innovation of our students and their potential to become future pioneers in criminal justice. The integration of theory and practice is what sets our institute apart and keeps it at the forefront of educational institutions.”

This forensic dramatization marks the beginning of 2025 with a series of major academic and scientific activities organized by the institute, aimed at enhancing academic excellence in alignment with global educational institutions. The prominent ranking of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in international classifications serves as concrete evidence that both the institute and the university as a whole are making continuous strides toward excellence and success.

The performance was directed by Professor Shibr Al-Malufid, a forensic photography instructor, in collaboration with Professor Noor Al-Huda Al-Basri, a media specialist.
