The Institute’s Oil Refining Department, in cooperation with the Occupational Health and Safety Department in Najaf, held a training workshop entitled “Occupational Health and Safety in the Oil and Gas Sector.” The workshop targeted employees and students of the department, both morning and evening classes. Senior Engineer Qais Azouz Latif lectured at the Scientific Complex Hall.
The workshop covered three main topics:
The first topic: Training students on the occupational safety vocabulary required in scientific laboratories and mechanical workshops, and introducing them to the National Center for Occupational Health and Safety.
The second topic: Addressing potential hazards in the oil and gas sector and refining operations, focusing on basic procedures that contribute to reducing accidents in the workplace.
The third topic: Mechanisms for dealing with hazards that workers or technicians may encounter in oil refineries, from minor accidents to fires. This was accompanied by a practical film aimed at promoting a culture of occupational health and safety procedures and rules in the workplace. In turn, Dr. Al-Abdali, Dean of the Institute, praised the workshop, saying, “Through these workshops and activities, we seek to provide our members and students with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure a safe work environment and reduce risks in this vital sector. This positively impacts work efficiency and worker safety.” At the conclusion of the workshop, the workshop coordinator, Assistant Professor Dr. Salah Mahdi, Head of the Oil Refining Technology Department, emphasized the importance of continuing to develop such training programs, given their vital role in honing the skills of members and students and promoting a culture of occupational safety in the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
