Media and Government Communication Division \/ Najaf Technical Institute*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Najaf Technical Institute, affiliated with the Middle Euphrates University of Technology, in collaboration with the university\u2019s Continuing Education Center, organized a seminar titled “Outcomes of Using the Oedometer Device in Partially Saturated Soils” under the auspices of the Civil Technologies Department. The seminar was presented by Asst. Lect. Rusul Hussein Ali at the Scientific Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar aimed to shed light on the significance of the Oedometer device in examining the settlement of saturated, unsaturated, and partially saturated soils, and determining their engineering properties. Key topics included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Introduction to the Oedometer**: A specialized device for testing soil settlement under applied loads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Partially Saturated Soils**: Soils containing both water and air in varying proportions within their voids.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Impact of Loads on Soil: Construction activities alter soil void volumes, leading to settlement and adverse effects on buildings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Measuring Soil Settlement: Quantifying settlement over time under specific loads, using soil mechanics equations to calculate void ratios and determine soil properties.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Dr. Al-Abdali, Dean of the Najaf Technical Institute, praised the seminar organized by the Civil Technologies Department, emphasizing its role in disseminating cutting-edge technologies and knowledge in civil engineering. He highlighted the importance of equipping engineering professionals to address diverse soil-related challenges. Dr. Al-Abdali also commended Asst. Lect.
