In order to achieve the goals of the National Strategic Plan for the Women’s Empowerment Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Kazem Al-Zubaidi, and with the approach of International Women’s Day, the Women Empowerment Section at the university, in cooperation with the Departments of Student Activities, Media, and Governmental Communication, organized a carnival.
The festival included a speech by the esteemed President of the University, who highlighted the role of Iraqi women in the proper construction of society in his speech delivered at the opening of the festival. The event was attended by the esteemed Vice President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Deans of the Najaf and Kufa formations, as well as a number of guests, department heads, staff members, and those responsible for the Women’s Empowerment Units in the university’s formations.
The President mentioned that International Women’s Day is not just an occasion for celebration but an opportunity to reflect on the paths of success and the challenges that women have faced throughout history. It is also a time to think about what women have contributed to the building and advancement of our societies. He praised the efforts of women who have succeeded in achieving excellence in various fields, whether in work, creativity, entrepreneurship, or community service, noting that their contributions are a source of inspiration for new generations and an enhancement of the true understanding of women’s capabilities.
The festival included a dialogue seminar, with participation from Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, President of Al-Zahra University (A), Dr. Hanan Deekan, Vice President for Scientific and Administrative Affairs at Jaber Ibn Hayyan Medical University, Dr. Hamida Aidan Salman, Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences at Karbala University, and Dr. Angham Jassem Al-Rihami, Dean of the College of Health and Medical Technologies in Kufa.
The seminar, which was moderated by the head of the Women Empowerment Section, Mrs. Ikhlas Rizak Naham, addressed the role of women in society and in building the state, as well as the impact of social heritage and family upbringing on preparing women for leadership roles. It also covered women’s work from an Islamic perspective and ways to involve them in decision-making.
The seminar concluded with the honoring of the women participants in the seminar and the distinguished female staff members at the university and its formations. At the end of the festival, female employees who are cancer fighters were also honored.
