About the Department
Forensic science or criminal science is a general term that encompasses the scientific and technical aspects used in a methodical approach to collect evidence and examine information that leads to identifying the cause of an incident in the field of criminology. It is a department specialized in providing a team responsible for investigating accidents and crimes. It is one of the medical scientific departments at the Technical Institute of Najaf / Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University. The department offers an excellent educational program that qualifies students after graduation to work in various fields related to forensic science and law. This is achieved by providing and preparing highly qualified individuals in crime investigation, forensic investigations, fingerprint lifting, evidence collection, handling and analyzing it, which leads to identifying perpetrators based on clear scientific methods. It also covers how to preserve evidence at the crime scene, collect samples, document evidence, and learn how to use modern tools and techniques in the field. The department aims to prevent and identify crimes and support courts and public prosecutors with facts based on forensic evidence. In this context, and due to the high demand for this specialization, the Forensic and Judicial Technology Department was established at the Technical Institute of Najaf, as per the letter from Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (..............), to contribute to providing the technical team capable of performing the aforementioned tasks. The first batch of students was accepted in the academic year 2019-2020.
