About the Department
The Department of Mechanical Technologies is one of the main technological departments at the institute. The department was established with the founding of the institute in 1978, with two branches (metal production and maintenance). Over time, the department has developed into modern workshops containing computerized lathe and milling machines for various types of metals, as well as modern laboratories for metal surface coating, testing physical properties of metals and non-metals, and heat treatments for steel, keeping up with global advancements in production and manufacturing. The Department of Mechanical Technologies has provided various scientific, technical, industrial, production, training, and engineering consultation services to different sectors of the state and society, both historically and currently. It has also contributed to various social welfare activities, combating unemployment, providing support for the needy, and empowering women programs.
Department Vision
We work hard to make the Department of Mechanical Technologies one of the best scientific and technical departments at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and in the country. We aim for the university to be among the top 500 accredited universities worldwide through the advancement of the teaching staff, laboratories, libraries, and the valuable books they contain. Additionally, we seek to improve curricula to align with these requirements, making it a beacon for students across the country. We aim to prepare a generation of technicians with a technical diploma and contribute to society by producing graduates with practical experience and skills. We strive to ensure that this vision aligns with the aspirations and goals of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, fulfilling the requirements of the government program.

- Developing the study in both quantity and quality, in line with the institute's and university's core goals of creating new pathways and channels in technical curricula to keep pace with modern technological developments. This ensures compatibility with global scientific progress and the rapid advancement of science and technology in all aspects of contemporary human life and activities.

The goals of the Mechanical Department are an extension of the objectives of the Najaf Technical Institute and Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, and they are as follows:
- General Objective: To prepare technical personnel in the field of metal production technologies who bear the responsibility of building the nation and participating in its comprehensive development in line with the country's needs.
- Instilling Islamic, national, and humanitarian values in the new generation and preparing future alternative leaders.
- Preparing a cultured generation armed with knowledge, using it as a solid foundation for making fundamental changes, and applying scientific knowledge and analytical thinking to serve the nation's goals and eliminate any issues associated with them.
- Working to enhance the status of the university and institute as centers of creative cultural radiation that deepen authentic social values.
- Striving to balance the progress of theoretical sciences with their practical aspects.
- Focusing on guiding students and selecting the best methods to expand their activities and deepen their scientific and professional specialties within the framework of sustainable development plans and the country's needs, while fostering creativity, innovation, renewal, and initiative among them.
- Focusing on introducing modern methods in the learning system that enhance students' ability to innovate and create.
- Contributing effectively to deepening and strengthening the relationship between the university and society through implementing consulting services, training, developing staff, and preparing specialized courses.
