The institute was established in 1978 as the first educational institution in Najaf Governorate, initially housed in a small building in the city of Kufa with only two academic departments. In 1982, the institute relocated to Najaf, along the road between Najaf city and Abu Sukhayr district, and has since expanded significantly. Today, the institute includes 15 departments, 16 branches, and offers four main areas of specialization: Technology, Administration, Arts, and Medical Sciences.
